Oregon information
Although Oregon is growing fast, most of the state's population lives within the Portland metropolitan area. East of the Cascade Range, Oregon is as empty as much of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, and with the same Wild West feel. The state has seven designated tourism regions. West to east, they are the Coast, known for its rugged vistas; Portland, the state's commercial and cultural capital; Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, the state's best playground; the Willamette Valley, a mostly urban area with plenty of natural delights; Southern Oregon, home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Crater Lake US Park; Central Oregon, famous for skiing at Mount Bachelor; and Eastern Oregon, a high-desert expanse that includes rivers, canyons, mountains, and the famous Oregon Trail.
